RITUAL VIRTUALITY

‘Ritual Virtuality’ is an installation made out of empty jars, packaging and bottles of cosmetic and beauty products, as well as old makeup and clothing that I have bought while having an anxiety episode.

This work is a representation of the relationship between psychology and society and how other elements like marketing and culture take advantage of these type of mental disorders for profit.

After researching and interviewing a group of women, I discovered that this behaviour wasn't a unique personal characteristic but rather a common happening between women. The aim of the work is to represent an abstract female body and the hidden effects of anxiety. I also see this work as a ‘self-portrait’ as this body is made out of objects that were meant to be used in my body.

I AM (PRETENDING THAT I AM) OKAY
